What is the official definition of "Prevent" in Magic/MTG?

I'm looking for the official definition of the word "Prevent" on MTG cards. So if I enchant a creature with "Pariah" (all dmg to me is redirected to the enchanted creature) but that creature has an ability that states "Prevent all combat damage dealt to this creature." Does this mean I'm invincible OR does it mean that the Prevent-Creature is an invalid target for the damage? If the latter, what happens to the damage?

The damage that would have been dealt to you is redirected to the creature. If that damage was combat damage, then it is then prevented. (The fact that the damage was redirected does not change the fact that it was combat damage.)

The technical definition of "Prevent all combat damage dealt to this creature." is "If combat damage would be dealt to this creature, instead it isn't."

In this situation, you won't take any combat damage, and neither will the creature enchanted with Pariah. If someone deals non-combat damage to you, then it will be redirected to your creature, and will damage it.

The creature enchanted with Pariah can still be killed by non-combat damage (such as by Lightning Bolt, which is going to be back in the next core set).
