Where would classic aircraft blueprints be? Museum, private collection, basement somewhere?
I would love to find some old aircraft blueprints, especially planes build by Hughes Aircraft, would also like WWII and WWI plans. Anyone know where original copies might be found? I don't mind doing the leg work to track them down but I don't even know where to begin my search.
Most of the classic design information would still be in the hands of the company that originally built the airplane; for example, Boeing still has the original shop drawings for the B-17 and B-29 on display. In cases in which the companies have been diluted, merged, absorbed, or otherwise changed identities, the current holding company would be the one still owning the drawings.
In most cases, these materials will not be available for sale or viewing. The lawyers are used to inquiries, and experienced at getting rid of people.
