Uniforms taking away, now we have pro-rated t-shirts if we arnt their for a year.?

Ok this may seem odd. But the company I work for decided to do away with our uniforms. We work in dirty/greasy conditions. The uniforms were picked up weekely and cleaned.
However the company decided now that we get t-shirts instead of your uniform pants and shirts. Plus, we are responsible for cleaning them ourselves. We only get more once a year. Not only that, but lets say we quite, get fired, or so forth. We have to pay a pro-rated cost on your shirts. This does not seem right or fair. I don’t even see how this is legal, but then again the lack of employee protection laws, I can see it. We didn’t have any choice in the matter.
Can they do this? I’m assuming the answers will be yes. Along with the typical response that if you don’t like it, your free to work elsewhere.
Oh yea, the reason was cost and the company had to make some cut backs. But yet, a few weeks later, we got surprised with bonus checks for having a great year. Makes no since to me either.

Contact your labor board and ask them.
