usmc Marpat vs army ACU uniforms... what do you think?
i dont know, personally i think the acu pattern looks ugly and looks inefficient in a woodland environment. but I also think that what it lacks in pattern it makes up for in quality (like all that velcro and patches and zippers), the marine marpat i like the pattern but the buttons and stuff make it seem like its not as good as acu

They both do their job and have a place. Having never wore marpat uniforms, I cannot say for sure what is good or bad about them.
ACU is a decent all around camo pattern. It does what it is intended to do, which is blend in with a lot of different stuff. Yes, there are better patterns out there, but ACU does a good job as well. One area it really comes into it's own is just after dusk. The uniform blends very well and is IR resistant so it isn't as easy to spot with optics after dark. Of course we then slap IR patches on it to see ourselves, defeating the purpose of making them IR resistant.
The velcro sucks for the most part. BDUs were good because buttons were easy to replace, silent, and didn't break or jam like the zippers do. Velcro wears out, makes patches more expensive, sticks to things like other people in formations, and isn't silent when you need to be.
Everything is velcro... excpet skills badges. Why are these pin on? I thought we were supposed to be saving money with the velcro patches, but now I need to buy metal bits that lose their color quickly and can't be worn with armor on? What good does that do me? When we used sewn on badges everything was straight, neat, and good to go. Now you can have all sorts of jacked up uniforms. Measuring badges is for class A's, not for duty wear.
They said that the military polled soldiers before making the ACU. Then why is it we got a pen pocket on the arm? Who the f... needs pens on the arm when there are pockets all over the place to carry them and your paper pad? Why didn't they give it a cover to keep the pens from flying out when you are doing IMT or other movement techniques?
We got pants with more pockets but a weaker crotch inseam. BDU pants never tore at the crotch, but I have lost many sets of ACUs this way.
The ACU was not designed for combat, it was designed for the REMFs to wear.
