Wearing Army ACU to high school?
I realize that wearing your uniform to school is basically wrong, but I was informed by my recruiter that I, being a Split-Option soldier, can wear my ACU next year for about a week and receive active duty pay, for recruiting purposes and gaining the Army some publicity around the school. Has anyone heard of this program?
Yes, it sounds like hometown recruiting. If you are receiving active duty pay, you would be on orders. You are supposed to wear your uniform if you are being paid.
For recruiting, this provides advertising and a chance to talk to other students about the military. I'm sure the recruiter is hoping to get some leads and possibly recruits from you. It MAY be allowed by the military, but schools can be extra sensitive. Depending on where you live in the country, the school may consider it disruptive. Even if the recruiter says ok, verify with the school ahead of time.
This is kind of like the recruiters (I've seen Marines do it) that show up at football games in Class A or B uniform. I've worn ACUs to a Veteran's Day even at my son's school. We had an active duty AF in class A, me in ACUs, and a retired Navy officer (Korean War) in civilian clothes. It is a chance for younger kids to ask questions and learn about the military.
