I have a question about the Army Air Corps?
When was it changed to the USAAF? And to the US Air Force? Why?
Air service started in the Army as just a couple of aircraft and those that envisioned air power for the future. There were many that seen it as a novelty or reconisence at best. As it grew and the naysayers proved wrong it was split off as its own branch of the military in 1947 so as to concentrate on airpower and not just support for ground troops.
